Porthmadog

Commercial cleaning in Porthmadog, done properly

Porthmadog was built to move slate, and the town still follows that shape — a harbour, a high street running back from it, and the Cob carrying the road and railway across the estuary.

What that means for cleaning is awkward buildings. The shops on Stryd Fawr are deeper than their fronts suggest, with yards behind and upper floors that used to be storage and are now flats or offices. A lot of it is painted render facing an estuary.

The visitor season sets the calendar. Between the two railways, the harbour and Eryri beyond it, the town fills for months. Cottages, flats above shops and the caravan parks out at Morfa Bychan turn over weekly. Changeover cleaning here is not a domestic round — it is a fixed handover time with no room to run late, and enough crew to do several properties in the same few hours.

Salt is the other constant. The estuary is tidal and the wind comes straight up it. Glass hazes faster than it does inland and painted walls take a beating. We clean windows more often here than we would in a sheltered town, and we soft wash rather than pressure wash — the render on the older stock will not survive a lance.

There is building work alongside it. Cyngor Gwynedd's housing programme and the conversions on the high street both end in a builders clean, usually against a date that has already slipped once. That is the job we plan crew around.

The Llŷn and the southern coast run as one round through the season.

  • Criccieth — ten minutes west, and almost entirely changeover work
  • Pwllheli — the marina and the caravan parks beyond it
  • Gwynedd — the county page, including Blaenau and the Dolgellau end

Yes, and it is a big part of what we do here through the season. What matters is the handover window — guests out, property cleaned and checked, guests in, usually the same day. We plan the round in advance. If you manage several properties, give us the season and we will resource it.

More often than inland. The Glaslyn estuary is tidal and the prevailing south-westerly carries salt straight up it, so glass hazes over noticeably within a few weeks on an exposed elevation. Premises on the harbour front and along the Cob generally want a monthly frequency through the season; something tucked behind the high street can usually go longer. We will tell you honestly which you are after the first visit.

Yes, but by soft washing. Much of the older stock here is painted render over rubble stone, and a pressure lance strips the paint and drives water into the wall.

Yes. Post-construction cleaning to a handover programme is our main commercial work, and the housing and conversion schemes around Porthmadog and Tremadog are exactly that. We price off a site visit rather than a drawing, issue RAMS and the SSIP certificate with the quote, and scale the crew to the completion date. If the date has already moved once, tell us — it usually has, and it changes how we resource it.

The whole peninsula. Criccieth, Pwllheli, Abersoch, Nefyn and the villages between them are a normal run for us from Porthmadog, and we treat the Llŷn as one working area rather than a series of separate call-outs. There is no call-out charge anywhere on it.
