Commercial cleaning in Caernarfon, done properly

Caernarfon is really two towns to clean. Inside the walls the buildings are old, listed or in a conservation area, and the streets are narrow enough that access is the first thing we work out. Down at Doc Fictoria and along the waterfront the stock is much newer — apartments, offices and marine units — and there the problem is exposure.

The old town is where the care is needed. Lime render, painted stone and slate do not take a pressure lance. We soft wash instead, which is slower and costs a little more, but it does not leave you repainting an elevation. Loading and parking need sorting before the first visit, because a lot of these streets will not take a van sitting in them.

The waterfront is the opposite problem. Newer buildings, easier access, but they sit right on the Strait. Salt haze dulls the glass within a couple of weeks in an onshore wind. It hazes evenly, so it is easy to miss until it looks bad.

The castle and the harbour bring a long tourist season, which fills the town with holiday lets, cafés and small hotels. That is changeover cleaning through the summer and deep cleans in the quiet months. There is construction work too — Cyngor Gwynedd's housing programme and the developments around the edges of the town — and those end in a builders clean against a date somebody has already committed to.

Cyngor Gwynedd is the council. Welsh is the working language for most people here, and our crews are Welsh speakers, which makes site conversations easier for everyone.

Caernarfon sits between two very different working areas, and we cover both from here.

  • Bangor — the university, the hospital and most of the city-centre contract work
  • Porthmadog — south down the coast, where the season sets the calendar
  • Gwynedd — the county page, for anywhere in between

Usually, but it takes planning. Some streets inside the walls will not take a van parked up, so we sort loading and access before the first visit and build it into the price.

Yes, and the method matters enormously. Historic stone, lime render and old pointing will not take pressure washing — it strips the surface and drives water into the fabric, and the damage is not reversible. We soft wash at low pressure with the appropriate treatment. If a building is listed, tell us, because it can affect what is permitted as well as what is sensible.

Monthly for anything at Doc Fictoria or on the front. Salt haze off the Strait dulls glass within a couple of weeks in an onshore wind, and it hazes evenly, so it is easy to miss until it is significant. Premises further back from the water are generally fine at six to eight weeks.

Winter, if the building allows it. Booking that for January or February makes a real difference to what we can get done, because the property is quiet and drying time is not fighting you.

Yes. Bontnewydd, Llanrug, Penygroes, Y Felinheli and out through Dyffryn Nantlle are all normal working area for us. No call-out charge.
